As last week was the 25th anniversary of A Tribe called Quest's debut LP, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, so it was a no brainer to talk about this LP. At the time, rap was dominated with tracks about hoes and gang violence and then along came this new sound (Native Tongues) and a new breed of rapper with artists like Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah and De La Soul. Even their clothes ... no tracksuits or a gold chain in sight.
Standout tracks off this LP were this of course the hits, "I Left My Wallet in El Segundo" and "Can I Kick It ?" (which the band never saw any money due to label's mismanagement of the Lou Reed sample) but "Luck Of Lucien"'s jazzy french vibe and "Description of a Fool"'s flow were personal favs.
And they've just released this box set, which "the newly remastered album over eight vinyl small hole 45s, with unique artwork on each one along side a new bonus track (‘If The Papes Come (Remix)’) and three other songs not included on the original release. It all comes snuggly packed in a carrying case illustrated with the album’s original artwork." Want 1
